Power Generation
As well as offering project management services for power generation and infrastructure requirements, JCL International can also provide expertise and assistance within the boundaries of Energy Management & Electrical Grid Management.
Energy Management
Energy Management in the past has usually meant exhaustive and
expensive energy auditing of a facility with payback
recommendations that often involve significant capital works
some of which will realize payback in less than 3 years and
others stretching out to a financially impractical 5-10 years
or further.
JCL however have adopted a realistic approach where simplified
energy audits are conducted that will allow identification of a
nominal 20 percent of viable energy reduction concepts and
projects that typically realize 80 percent of the overall
savings during a target payback period of 3 years. Marginal
cases of 3-5 years are also identified and partially
quantified for potential further investigation.
Each energy audit utilizes engineering staff with individual
experience in this field of in excess of 10 years who identify
the annual consumption, and electrical demand where relevant,
per item of equipment or device and apply theoretical energy
and cost savings where considered realizable, based on their
broad experience and recent trends.
Electrical Grid Management
Existing power grid loadings all over the globe are
being pushed to the limit with expanding Central Business District (CBD),
industrial and suburbia expansion, to the point
of failure in some western and developing countries.
Often there are realizable solutions that require
participation of end users vs. the cost prohibitive
upgrading of high and medium voltage grid reticulation.
For instance formulation of procedures and agreements
to have a number of Central Business District (CBD) and or large retail sites
with 100% standby power, initiate 100% load shed from
the grid when the latter is overloading.
Remuneration is arranged such that participants are
paid an annual retainer and a per initiation amount.
Cost of generator engine fuel and servicing is
carried by each load shed client with the per
occurrence payment intended to cover any out of
pocket costs of small diesel generation vs. cost at
their normal tariff. This standby power operation is
usually arranged on a 4 hour minimum load shed period,
but extendable should more serious grid load carrying
or generation problems arise.
JCL has experience in putting together the potential
players in allowing this to happen, with all participants
having short and long term benefits and involving no
capital works.
